EcoBricks are an amazing way to repurpose the waste that typically ends up in the landfill,
turning it into something very useful

What is an EcoBrick?
An EcoBrick is an empty plastic bottle that is filled with waste plastic, as well as other things, until it is stuffed so full that it's hard as brick.
What are EcoBricks used for?EcoBricks have been around for many years all around the world and have many different uses including benches, sheds, houses and even hospitals.
On Sozo Farm we have been using them to build our raised beds and are on a quest to build some sheds a barn and hopefully even some cabins. |
Sozo's history w/ EcoBricksI discovered EcoBricks back in 2016 and after making my first one I got hooked.
Over the years, with LOTS of experience, I was very excited to be able to start using the EcoBricks on our farm. Now I'm ready to share the fun with anyone else that wants to learn how to make a difference one brick at a time. |
How do you make an EcoBrick?
Over the years I've seen a lot of videos on how to make an EcoBrick and sadly many people make them much harder than they have to be.
They are really easy to make BUT it will build some stronger arm muscles and can give you hand cramps if you make them often.

What you'll need:
A clean, dry semi-sturdy bottle with the lid: you don't want to use the water bottles that crush easily. Our bottle of choice is the Gatorade/Powerade type bottles because they are really sturdy even before stuffing, but we use whatever we have available to, typically 20 oz soda bottles Lots of clean plastic & other items: Again, use what you have access to, grocery bags, bread bag, mylar chip bags, candy wrappers...see our videos for hints on what to use. A long, thin, strong tool: we prefer a honing blade or a long screwdriver |
It's as easy as 1, 2, 3 |
1) Stuff the plastic into the bottle and push it down with the tool.
2)Do this until the bottle is completely full and hard like a brick. 3)Put the lid on it and add a personal message with a sharpie. |
